Blooming Artistry: A Celebration of Spring at the Museum of Fine Arts

As the cold grip of winter loosens its hold, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), prepares to welcome the vibrant colors and fragrant scents of spring with its highly anticipated 48th-annual Art in Bloom celebration. From Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28, visitors will be immersed in a sensory feast as art from the MFA’s extensive collection harmonizes with stunning floral interpretations crafted by both volunteer enthusiasts and esteemed professionals.

For over four decades, Art in Bloom has enchanted audiences, offering a unique marriage of art and nature. This year’s edition promises to be no exception, featuring 45 interpretive arrangements that span the spectrum from ancient to contemporary art. Among the highlights of the event are two master classes led by Semia Dunne, the esteemed founder and president of SEMIA, renowned as one of the nation’s premier floral enterprises. Dunne’s expertise, recognized by industry luminaries such as Martha Stewart Weddings and Florists Review Magazine, ensures an enlightening and inspiring experience for attendees.

The festivities kick off with a special preview on Thursday, April 25, offering a tantalizing glimpse of the freshly installed arrangements. Throughout the weekend, visitors can indulge in free guided tours of the floral displays, included with Museum admission. Those seeking unique gifts and keepsakes can explore the Garden Cart in the Shapiro Family Courtyard, brimming with delightful treasures and flower-filled teacups.

Exclusive privileges await MFA members during Member Night on Saturday, April 27, providing an opportunity for an intimate viewing of Art in Bloom. Members can also explore the Museum’s major spring exhibitions, including “Hallyu! The Korean Wave” and “Dress Up,” which showcases the institution’s remarkable fashion and jewelry collection. Sharing the experience on social media is encouraged, with attendees invited to tag their floral photos with #mfaInBloom.

Art in Bloom is made possible by the dedicated efforts of the MFA Associates, a group of volunteers who lend their talents to creating exquisite floral arrangements throughout the year. The event is supported by Arbella Insurance Foundation and Yellow Wood Partners, underscoring its significance within the cultural landscape of Boston.
