Boston Ballet ushers in its 2024 season with Fall Experience, an extraordinary program that balances innovation, artistry, and revival. The performance, running from October 24 through November 3 at the Citizens Opera House, highlights four dynamic works by renowned choreographers. While performance take place at the Boston Opera House the Boston Ballet studios and school are located here in the South End, just a couple blocks from Clarendon Square Inn.
The lineup includes the highly anticipated world premiere of Lia Cirio’s new piece, set to selections from Lera Auerbach’s 24 Preludes. Cirio, celebrating her 20th season with the company, merges intricate choreography with emotionally resonant music, reflecting both strength and vulnerability.
Returning to the stage is Sabrina Matthews’ Ein von Viel, a poetic work featuring multiple dancers in flexible gender configurations, set to Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The piece explores themes of human connection and breaks conventional ballet boundaries.
Boston Ballet’s resident choreographer Jorma Elo brings back Plan to B, an energetic and complex ballet accompanied by Heinrich Biber’s vibrant music. After a decade-long absence from the company’s repertoire, this piece promises to captivate with its fast-paced choreography and emotional depth.
The program culminates with Crystal Pite’s The Seasons’ Canon, a contemporary masterpiece set to Max Richter’s reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Known for its fluid choreography and striking visuals, this work reflects the complexity and beauty of seasonal change, creating a mesmerizing conclusion to the evening.
With Fall Experience, Boston Ballet offers a program that exemplifies both modern ballet’s potential and the company’s dedication to fostering female voices in the art form. Audiences are in for an unforgettable experience where tradition meets the avant-garde.
